We have been having many conversations this week about Truth and Reconciliation. This topic is difficult for both adults and children to understand, however the students asked amazing questions and are building their understanding. I have included some videos below for you to watch with your child at home. Enjoy your day and remember to take a moment to think about why we now have this day off of school, and remember Every Child Matters.

A NEW homework assignment was posted yesterday. Please complete it with your child. There are 5 tasks to complete, as you will see them numbered in the homework file.
If you have not yet already done so, please send in a pair of over-the-ear headphones for your child to use at school. You DO NOT need to send in an iPad/tablet, just the headphones, please.
Terry Fox Run is on Thursday. We will be going out rain or shine, so please have your child dressed appropriately.
Gym class will now be OUTSIDE. Please have your child wear appropriate shoes to participate safely in Physical Education (i.e. no sandals, fancy boots).

We had a wonderful second week in grade one! We did our first art project-check out the picture below! We also began exploring patterns using a variety of math manipulatives in our classroom. Look at the pictures with your child and see if they can identify the patterns.

We also did word work, where we studied the AT word family. Ask your child if they can tell you a few words that belong to this word family!

Our first week of grade 1 was a success! We are getting used to routines and learning how to cooperate with others. We are also learning how to be responsible for our supplies. Today Mrs. Hawkins came into our classroom to teach us health. Mrs. Hawkins will also be our Music teacher.

We had another great day in grade 1. We read a poem, created a classroom rules poster, wrote about our summer vacation, and did our first number of the day assignment in math! It's only day 2 and we have learned so much!

Happy First Day of School!
We had a great first day of grade one! We went on a school tour and went to a welcome back assembly. We practiced being respectful in our classroom and waiting our turn. We did first day self-portraits and completed sentence frames. We are beginning to learn the names of all our friends and are definitely coming out of our comfort zones!
