Good afternoon,

We had a wonderful and busy week!  I am sure the students have been telling you about all the silly things our Elf, Sparkle has been doing! Please take a look at the pictures below and ask your child all about it!

In math, we are working on using the 'counting on' strategy to solve addition with sums to 18. We also sorted shapes by different attributes.

In writing, we are working on writing 4 or more sentences.

In science, we talked about things that tell us winter is coming and activities that animals and people do in the winter.

In social studies, we drew maps that had to include landmarks. The students then had to explain why they chose these landmarks and justify their thinking.

In reading, we are continuing to retell stories, make personal connections, and build our sight word recognition.

We had a virtual visit from the Earth Rangers. We got to meet and learn about so many cool animals!

In art, we made Ugly Christmas Sweaters! There is also a song that goes with it!

Good afternoon,

This week at school we had a new friend join our class. Her name is SPARKLE and she is from the North Pole. She is watching us closely to make sure that we are showing expected behaviour and kindness in our classroom. She loves to play tricks and be silly. Here she is enjoying her Elf Ball Pit! I wonder what she will do next week in our class! Ask your child all about this new visitor!

The students worked hard on completing some Shape City math art. They had to cut out shapes to create tall buildings. They had to cut out windows, doors, and roofs as well. They did a great job. I will post a photo next week!

This week the students also designed their own community. They had to think about what important landmarks and services to include in their communities.

In math, we continued to work on addition skills. We have begun using the counting on strategy to solve addition problems with sums beyond 10. This is tricky, but we are getting the hang of it!

REMINDERS

  • We are collecting non-perishable items for the food bank. We are also having a friendly competition with Ms. Oliphnat's class and right now they have collected way more food than our class! If you are able to, please send in a few items for us to donate to the food bank to help out families in our community this holiday season. Thank you!
  • Friendly reminder to send winter gear with your child to school daily, especially as the snow continues to fall!
  • We are still collecting items for the food bank. Right now our class has brought in 49 items!!! This is awesome. Let's try to make it to 100!
Have a great weekend,

Ms. Overdevest
