Good afternoon!

We had another great week in grade 1. We have been doing lots of science activities. This week we learned what Braille is and even made our names in braille with the use of some bumpy stickers. We also used our senses to explore our new classroom friends, Jack and Spookarella (see pictures below). We brainstormed how they are similar and how they are different.

We did literacy centres, where students got to practice their spelling words in a number of ways; baking words, beads and pipe cleaners, wood letters, letter tiles, and alphabet popsicle sticks!

We also did a writing assessment using the sentence frame "I see______" Student wrote about all the things they see in the Fall.

In math, we learned what the word 'attribute' means and sorted objects by one attribute. We know how to sort by colour, shape, and size!

We had library time for the first time this week! Our library day is WEDNESDAY. Students must bring their library books to school on Wednesday so that they can sign out a new book. If they do not bring it back, they will need to wait until the following Wednesday to bring it back.

Updates:

  • I will send home spelling tests and homework books on Tuesday.
  • Homework will be posted on Sunday.
